A CARLOAD of large bamboo canes were cut from the Unity Park grounds to be shipped to California the first of October. October 2, Mrs. Julia Horne and daughter, Miss Melba Horne, were dinner guests of the Unity. October 4, Brother Lawrence Bubbett, editor of THE FLAMING SWORD, motored to Miami to remain with friends for several weeks. Sister Florence Graham will take his place at the linotype in setting up THE SWORD, and Sister Bella Armour will assist Brother Samuel with the proof reading. Miss Bertha Boomer, who recently returned from a visit in Philadelphia with her sister, Mrs. Walter H. Thomas spent several days with Unity friends. W. Stanley Hanson and Robert Dupress, of Fort Myers, and Abe Lincoln, a Seminole Indian from the reservation, were visiting old friends at the Unity October 9. Abe was one of the two Indian guides that led the Trail Blazers in 1923 across the lower Everglades, which route is practically now the Tamiami Trail which passes between the Unity general store and the Guiding Star Publishing House. Brothers Charlie Hunt, Allen Andrews and Alfred Christensen were three of the original Trail Blazers. October 11, Calvin D. Kinsman and son, from Miami, with several negroes and a derrick truck, secured from, the Unity nursery a load of cajeput trees and other plants, carrying them to Miami. On the same day S. W. Merritt and Lee Opp of Tampa were demo;nstrating on the Unity grounds a power tractor with mower attachment. Keeping down the grass and weeds in the Unity Park grounds entailed much hand labor and we are indeed grateful to our friend Mrs. Hilda Lamb, of Lakeland, Florida, who substantially aided in the purchase of the new tractor . Brother George Hunt is now operating the m~chine with satisfactory results. On the eleventh and twelfth of October negroes from Fort Myers, with acetylene torch, were engaged in taking apart the old printing office steam boiler to be carried away as junk. Electric power has, been used for many years. On the fourteenth, Ernest F. Coo, en route to his home in Miami from Fort Myers, where he had given an address on the Everglades National Park project, stopped off at Estero to call upon Unity friends. October 15, Moses, G. Weaver of St. Petersburg, Florida, arrived for a short visit. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lewis, of Everglades, were Unity guests October 16. We were especially glad to welcome these friends as they could not be p,resent at the Solar Anniversary on the 18th. October 18, the Birthday of KORESH, so dear to all Koreshans, was an enjoyable occasion. The diningroom was beautifully decorated with bamboo fronds, crotons and bouquets,. Much creqitls'due Sister Vesta N ewcomb and Bertie Boomer and Brothers Theodore Naeselius, Moses Weaver and Roger Perry for these beautiful decorati.ons. Our dinner guests were: Mrs. Hilda Lamb, Mrs.. Alexander McKay and Mrs. Dais.y Montgomery, of Lakeland ; Mrs. Lillian Rugg, Mrs. Jennie Campbell, Mrs. Edith Trebell, of Estero,; Law;; yer Percy Jqnes, Henry Moreland, Mrs. Julia Home, Miss Melba Home, Miss. Meta Monsees and Mrs. Max Arendt of Fort Myers. Glad to report that two of our shut-ins, Brothers Charles Hunt and J ohn Irving, were able to be present to enjoy the deliciou'sJy prepared dinner, by Sisters, Ida Fischer and Emily Bessemer of the culinary department. We are indebted to our friend, Mrs. Lillian Rugg for the greatly appreciated turkey-treat. Many interesting and helpful letters from our friends from afar were read during the dinner-hour, they were all with us in s,pirit, if not in person. At the 99th Anniversary services held in the Art Hall at 7 :30 P. M., Brother Henry and Sister Etta Silverfriend read, amidst the many pleasingly arranged plants and flowers on the stage, appropriate selections, from the writings of KORESH. The special violin and flute music furnished by Harold and Floyd Moreland, accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Harold Moreland, was thoroughly enjoyed by all those present. A large painting of KORESH draped with the Koreshan flag, occupied a prominent place on the platform, with the Stars and Stripes just to the right. Those arriving from Fort Myers to attend the evening services were Mrs,. Carrie Briggs and niece Miss Virginia Aldenhoff, Miss Cecil Hamilton, Miss Lydia Pierce, Dr. and Mrs. A. W. Walden and his father from Fort Mead, Harry Manley, Harold Moreland, Jr., Pat and Ted Morris Moreland. In the afternoon Mrs. Daisy Montgomery, with Sisters Emily Bessemer and Barbara Ehrisman and Brothers George Hunt and Arthur Moore, motored to Bonita Beach. The green cucumbers, raised on Brother Henry Moreland's farm adjacent to Fort Myers, which he brought with him, were enjoyed for several days.. On Friday, October 21, Brothers Allen Andrews and Henry Silverfriend made a trip to Orlando, Brother Henry remaining for several weeks. George Dore, the carpenter, is now engaged in getting in order the lobby for the Post Office. In October the Unity Park becomes beautiful with the artistically drooping yellow blossoms of the Flowering Elder bushes.
