Title:
Dear Emma — Letter to Emma Norton
Scope & Content:
This is a two part letter. The first part is dated 13 April 1889 and written in ink. It describes the condition of Jesse's wife, Emma's mother. Teed says they are not letting her do anything, even though there is lots to be done. He speaks of his business and how it will suffer if his wife remains ill. The second part of the letter is written in pencil. It is dated "Monday morn". It is unclear if it was written just after the first letter. In this letter, Teed describes his wife's improvement. He says "...she talks strait (sic) as a string and her tongue runs like a sheep, trotting on a shingle."
