THE FLAMING SWORD, Community Current Events, Oct 1946, p. 10: "The following item is quoted from the American Eagle of August 29th: "William F. McCready an old-time resident of Estero, died Tuesday night after a lingering illness. He had been bedridden with arthritis for thirteen years and was in his 93rd year. Mr. McCready came, with his wife and family, to the Koreshan Unity, then in Chicago, from near Pittsburgh, Penna., in the early 1900's and for many years was secretary of the Corporation. Shortly after the turn of the century came to Estero when the colony moved its headquarters to Florida from Chicago. Mr. McCready was a man of high character and a valued member of the Unity for more than 50 years. He is survived by a son, William F. McCready, Jr., of Boston and four daughters, as follows: Mrs. Catherine Church, Estero, Fla; Mrs. J. M. Ahrano, and Mrs. F. M. McConnell of Tampa, Florida, and Mrs. Rosalie Campbell of New York City. Burial was in the local cemetery."

William was a member of the Board of the Koreshan Unity serving as secretary in 1909. He was the bee-keeper for the Koreshan Unity, working and developing new bee-hives. In his ailing years, he was bedridden for 13 years with arthritis. He died at the age of 93 years on August 29*, 1946." (*Died August 20, 1946--Joyce Ratliff, January 2000)

Notes for Margaret MCCREADY:

MEMORIES, MEMORIES--DAYS OF LONG AGO chronicled by Marie McCready with participation by Lovelle McCready: "The only event in her (mother, Abigail McCready) life that ever seemed too much for her was the death of little Margaret when six and a half. I was just three months past four when she died but have several recollections of her, the most vivid being of her long golden hair. It was not curly but Mamma always braided it into two braids and then combed it out for dress up occasions such as going to Sunday School, and I still remember the way the sunlight glinted on it. We had both an inside and an outside entrance to the cellar, the outside one having a door which slanted upward. We youngsters loved to run across it and the Sunday before her death were engaged in this pastime when Margaret slipped and fell, and immediately complained that her back hurt. There was no doctor in our village so the next day, when it seemed worse, they brought a doctor from the next town, but she lived only a few days."
