MR M. W. STRICKLAND, the Unity store manager, left Sunday, July 19, on a two weeks vacation. Going through the flood with its many attendant cares afterward has kept Mr. Strickland pretty close to the store and we sincerely hope he will be much benefitted by the rest. During his absence, Joseph Haver-field will be in charge of the store, and Richard Dumbleton will substitute for the latter at the filling station. Our local store, with its bargain offerings of goods that went through the flood, has attracted many customers from Fort Myers and neighboring towns. Henry Moreland of Fort Myers gave us much valuable assistance in the arrangement of these goods and his services was much appreciated. Misses, Lillian Weimar, Elsie Sutton, Gunhild and Ingrid Jenassen of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, visited at the Unity while en route from Miami. Miss Weimar is a niece of the late Dr. Weimar; she had heard so much about Estero through her uncle and his daughter Mamie, to have a genuine desire to see the place; needless to say she and her friends were much pleased with their visit here. Mrs. Alex. McKay of Lakeland, Florida, was a guest of the Unity for several days. Her coming is always a pleasure to the folks here, for she is much devoted to the Master and his Cause. Dr. John Gifford, with Mrs. Gifford of Coconut Grove, Miami, Florida, were interested callers in Estero during the month. Dr. Gifford is one of the foremost authorities on plant life in the state of Florida, and for many years was connected with Gifford Pinchot in the Forestry Dept, at Washington. Dr. Gifford's outstanding articles appearing in The American Ea-gle from time to time, are a source of much pleasure and profit to Eagle readers. Sister Ella Graham, at the present writing, is visiting with her two sons, Robert and Lloyd Graham at Miami. She expects to spend the better'part of the summer with them and her daughter, Mrs. Victor Phillips and family. Brother Lou Staton, spent the better part of two weeks in Fort Myers, while recuperating from a slight illness. His niece, Miss Cecil Hamilton, who is principal of the Gwynne School of Fort Myers, and friends, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Raymond, with whom Lou stayed, gave him the kindest attention with the result that he was soon nursed back to health. Mr. Frank Sterling and Mr. James of Davie, Florida, were recent overnight guests of the Unity. Mr. Sterling is very enthusiastic about the cajeput tree and brought over with him a small truck load of cajeput bark and leaves for Mr. Burgess, whose chemist is making extensive experiments with the cajeput tree at the laboratory on Burgess Island. Mr. Sterling says it is the best honey producing plant in Florida.
