About this time Dr. Cyrus Teed appeared on the scene,**
en route from Chicago to find a site for his Korashan Unity.
This he located at Estero, below Punta Rassa, V/hen his
followers arrived they were transported in sailboats to the
settlement. Dr. Teed called himself Korash and taught his
followers that they lived inside the earth. They named
their town for Estero Bay on which they had located, and
raised vegetables and citrus fruits. No road ran into the
settlement at that time, so their only means of contact
with the outside world was by way of sail boats. I recall
seeing Dr. Teed at Punta Gorda, and later, in 189.7, I took
a snap-shot of him on a steamer on his way down the coast.***
