Evelyn Horn's notes: Dr. David J. Richards
"Dr. Richards was born in Wales, April 21, 1879. He studied chiropractic, a graduate of The Palmer School. He practiced in Flint, Michigan. David joined the Koreshan Unity on September 27, 1911. He became a naturalized citizen in 1914. Dr. Richards was a person of genial and pleasing personality. Whom to know was to admire. A loyal and untiring worker in the Koreshan cause."
He wrote religious and scientific writings, also Current Community Events (Community Current Events) in Estero for "The Flaming Sword." He was a speaker in the Art Hall for all Koreshan services. Dr. Richards was the Koreshan Unity doctor at the Sanitarium on the Estero River. He died of a very short illness of one week--of pnemonia (sic) --on October 31, 9:30 p.m. in 1937. David was a thin, tall man with fair skin and blue eyes, dark hair, greying at the temples. He dressed very neat, always in grey business suits."
FLAMING SWORD, Community Current Events by Adah J. Price, December 1937: "On October 3, at 9:30 p.m., our while community was shocked and grieved when learning of the death of Brother David J. Richards, following some two weeks illness, his passing caused by a complication of uremic poisoning and an abscess in the throat which later brought on pneumonia. Brother David was born in Wales April 21, 1879. He came to this country many years ago, working for a time in the steel mills in Ohio. He later studied chiropractic, graduating from the Palmer School, and practiced for a time in Flint, Michigan. From there he came to Estero September 27, 1911, becoming a naturalized citizen in 1914. Dr. Richards was a person of genial and pleasing personality, whom to know was to admire, and was a loyal, untiring worker in our Koreshan Cause. He will be deeply missed by a host of friends."
