FOLKS WE KNEW WHILE IN THE K.U. by Marie McCready; James Newcomb: "Hattie had charge of the dining room at Estero while I lived there. James was a tall fellow who played one of the coronets in the orchestra and had charge of the cows for awhile. After I recovered from the typhoid, Catharine and I used to wander down to the stable about milking time for an extra drink of milk. He later married Cora Newcomb (Koester) and they lived at LaBelle. Vesta and Catharine spent a good bit of time together when we first went to Estero and she is now the sole surviving member of those there before Doctor's death still living on the old home grounds."
