FOLKS WE KNEW WHILE IN THE K.U. by Marie McCready: Ralph Raby; "We knew the Rabys while in Freedom as Charley worked in the tower with Pappa and came into the Unity soon afterward. Eventually he went to Fort Myers, was married and brought up a family, although no longer young. Ralph lived with him in Freedom and was in Catharine's room in school. She did not like him and when he crawled up the aisle to her desk, she nearly broke her slate over his head. However, he was the one who received the reprimand, not she."

THE FLAMING SWORD; Community Current Events by Alafae Stephens; May 1934: "In connection with the Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce expansion program, a mass meeting was held in the Art Hall on the evening of the twenty-sixth to consider the program drawn up and to elect a representative and an alternate from this district. Brother Allen Andrews, who was nominated first, declined the office, and Mr. Charles Weiland was elected. Brother Claude Rahn was chosen as alternate. The purpose of the expansion program is to further the interests of the county as a whole through what heretofore has been solely the Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce. We always have thought that the little spot on the map for Estero should be bigger; perhaps all this expansion will bring it about." A BRIEF OUTLINE OF THE LIFE OF CYRUS TEED (KORESH) AND OF THE KORESHAN UNITY by Claude Rahn; KSHS; BK-003; Estero, Lee County, Florida; 1963. Rahn and Anne W. Lewis, on motion of Hedwig, seconded by Laurie and unanimously carried, it was decided to contact the proper state authorities about having the home grounds perpetuated as a memorial park.--Page 91. Notes from Evelyn Horn: Claude J. Rahn The Henry N. Rahn family joined the Koreshan Unity home in 1888 in Chicago. Mr. Rahn had heard Dr. Teed lecturing in the Chicago area and became a believer. They had 3 children: Claude J., Paul, and daughter Edna. The Rahn's came with the first large group of Koreshans in 1894 to Estero, by train to Punta Gorda, and by the sloop "The Ada," that Koresh bought in Punta Gorda to Estero. The children grew up in the Unity. They all studied music and the printing trade. When they grew up they all settled in Baltimore, Maryland, to make their living. Claude married his childhood friend Imogene Bubbett in 1913 at Baltimore. Their infant son died January 2, 1914--never having any more children. Claude and Imogene had a wonderful happy life. Claude was very successful in the business world, serving as president of a large concrete company in Philadelphia They had close family ties with the Unity. They owned 5 acres down the Estero River, had a small cottage built, and spent all their vacations at Koreshan Unity. Claude was always a strong supporter of the Koreshan Foundation, serving on the board and being the vice president of the board until his death. He worked at the Guiding Star Publishing house while visiting at Estero. Imogene died in October 1932, a sad loss to all Koreshan friends as she was so dearly loved. Claude remarried in 1941 to Elizabeth Shearer of Pennsylvania, a very beautiful person who made a lovely home for Claude. Claude and Elizabeth retired in 1950 to make their home in Vero Beach. Claude died August 18, 1973, and was buried in Crestlawn Cemetery, Vero Beach, Florida. His brother Paul died June 10, 1945. His mother died June 15, 1945. FLAMING SWORD, Community Current Events by D. J. Richards, February 1927: "It gives us great pleasure to record in this issue the return of Brothers Elbert W. Lindbeck, of Rock Island, Illinois, and Frank Rahn of Baltimore, Maryland. They are both happy to be back in the Unity again, and we are glad to have them. Brother Elbert is a Linotype operator, but understands the technique of job printing as well, and his assistance in this department of the publishing house is very much needed and will be appreciated. Brother Frank Rahn fits in wherever needed; it will be good to see him at his old place in the Koreshan Orchestra, playing the clarinet, or it may be the saxophone, as we understand he brought a saxophone with him. Both brothers are en rapport with the Master and his work, and proved it by coming back.
THE FLAMING SWORD, Community Current Events, August 1933, p. 13: "The sad news has been received from Baltimore of the death, after a long illness, of Mr. Henry N. Rahn, father of Brothers Claude and Frank Rahn, in his seventy-fifth year. Mr. Rahn was a staunch Koreshan and earnestly endeavored to further the Cause in his native city of Baltimore since accepting Koreshanity in 1895. Meetings were frequently held at his house to discuss the doctrine; and whenever KORESH visited Baltimore he was a welcome guest at the hospitable home of Mr. and Mrs. Rahn. Mr. Rahn is survived by his wife, five sons and a daughter." Note that the Flaming Sword account says he was survived by his wife, five sons and a daughter.

THE FLAMING SWORD; Community Current Events by L. W. Bubbett; February 1935: "Wednesday the sixteenth Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rahn of Winnetka, Illinois, arrived for a short visit with Mr. Rahns' brother, Brother Claude Rahn. Mr. Walter Rahn is connected with the Chicago office of the Commercial Credit Company of Baltimore. This year he took his vacation in Florida, and while motoring from Miami to St. Petersburg he stopped at Estero to visit his brother at the Unity. Brother Claude laments the fact that after extolling for years the beauties of the Koreshan Unity grounds, which the colorful crotons, artistic bamboo clumps, and other attractive plant life, his folks would come right after the disastrous freeze of last month had almost entirely wiped out the work and growth of some seventeen years--since the last devastating freeze! However, the visitors were well entertained, and they seemed to greatly enjoy their visit. They continued their journey north on the eighteenth."
THE KORESHAN UNITY MEMBERSHIP LIST by Claude J. Rahn: Matilda Grier FOLKS WE KNEW WHILE IN THE K.U. by Marie McCready: Tillie Grier: "They came to the Unity from the west, and I believe Oklahoma. The two older boys did not stay long, and do not believe they came to Estero. Bessie and Jessie were twins. They came to Florida but soon left. Ada was Lovelle's age. We never thought she paid much attention to her school studies but, when she became angry at someone, as often happened, and sounded off about that person, the big words she used, and generally correctly, were amazing. Everybody in the dormitory would gather around for it was well worth listening to. She married Carlton Case." 1900 U. S. They proved charming guests and entertained us as much, perhaps, as we entertained them. Mrs. Pike prior to her marriage was Mildred Redding, who came to the Unity with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Redding, from Massachusetts in 1905. Mr. Redding died a year later, and mother and daughter returned north. Mildred was a girl of 14, but she remembered well the scenes of her girlhood and recalled the names of most of those residing here at that time."
