BECAUSE OF ITS remoteness from any large financial center, this community felt the effects of the recent banking crisis only slightly. Much about the banking- situation would lead one to seriously consider whether we would not be better off without the banks than with them. Mrs. Thomas A. Edison and her sister, Mrs. F. A. Potter of Fort Myers and East Orange, N. J., Mrs. Anna Osterhout of Cambridge, Mass., and Mrs. Ned Connelly of Fort Myers, visited the Unity grounds and stopped for lunch at the Rustic Tea Garden. Our readers will learn with sincere regret of the passing of Mrs. Alice M. Fox Miller on March 12 at her home in St. Petersburg after a protracted illness. Mrs. Miller w.as one of the early converts to the cause of Koreshanity and had been associated with the move- ment for about forty-five years. She was secretary of the Society Arch-Triumphant after it. was organized in Chicago, and later was a contributor to THE FLAMING SWORD before the Northern division came to Estero. She resumed contributing to TliE SWORD over a year ago, despite her impaired health. The excellence of her contributions was attested to by written and spoken expressions of our readers. Mrs. Miller is survived by two sons and their families, and also a sister, Mrs. Jeannie Miller, a resident of the Unity. Sister Tacey Weaver visited with Miss Genevieve Bisbing for a week at her home in Fort Myers, follow- ing the death of Mr. Percy B. Bisbing, a frequent visitor at the Unity. Miss Bisbing paid Sister Tacey a return visit of a week. Miss Virginia Rugg, an early resident at the Unity, arrived from New York to spend a few weeks with her mother, Mrs. Lillian Rugg. Mrs. F. S. Lewis of Everglades, and Miss Maud McFaden of Syracuse, N. Y., spent a week-end at the Lewis cottag'e. An interested visitor was Alfred Jackson Hanna, professor :of history at Rollins College, Winter Park, Florida. Professor Jackson is at work collecting Flor- ida facts to be embodied in a Floridiana to be available at Rollins College. He found the Unity and the Koreshan movement of unusual interest to him and considered the facts relating to the Koreshan move- ment a valuable addition to his collection. Rollins College is one of the progressive and outstanding educational institutions in the United States. Mrs. Jennie Campbell and Edith Trebell were pleasantly surprised by a. party in their honor given by Miss Bertha Boomer and Mrs. Walter Thomas. A, number of Unity members participated and reported a very enjoyable evening. Sister Rose Gilbert accompanied her sister, Mrs. F. S. Lewis, .and Miss Maud McFaden on a visit to the Bok Tower at Lake Wales, Fla. Brother Alien Andrews was the guest for several days of Dr. Charles F. Burgess of Burgess Island, near Bokeelia. Dr. Burgess is a widely known chemical engineer and makes his home at Madison, Wisconsin, in the summer. Alafae Stephens entertained at a bridge party for Miss Genevieve Bisbing at the Lewis cottage. A group of members enjoyed a beach party at Bonita Beach given in honor of Miss Bisbing. Sisters Adah. Price and Vesta Newcomb, Brother George Hunt and Mr. G. M. Ba&sett accompanied Mrs. I. Boulware on a trip to Alva where they visited with Henry and Floyd Moreland. Brothers Alien Andrews and David J. Richards, Dr. and Mrs. Edward R. von Malt.zahn and Mr. L. A. Whitney drove to Sebring to witness a dedicatory ceremony at Highland Park Hammock. An unusually large number of winter tourists have visited the Unity grounds during the past month. Friends who visited us were: Miss Lydia Pierce, Miss Cecil Hamilton, M.iss Meta Monsees, Miss Clara Angell, Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Whitney, Mr. Bert Smedley, all of Fort Myers; Dr. E. L. Rasmusssen and Miss Martha Sykes, of Miami; Mrs. James Newcomb of LaBelle, Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Pulcifer of Fort Myers Beach, and Dr. Charles F. Burgess of Burgess Island. We are pleased to announce the return of Brother Laurence Bubbett from Baltimore, Md., after an ab- sence of three months, with his brother-in-law, Claude Rahn. Mr. Rahn will make his home with the Unity for the present and is a most welcome addition to our community. Brother David Richards and a party motored to Fort Myers Beach for a visit with Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Pulcifer. The Unity has taken the contract for the printing of The Southwest Floridan, a weekly newspaper, of which Mr. George Hosmer of Fort Myers is editor and publisher. The Unity has purchased a new Chevrolet sedan to replace the Buick car driven by Brother Alien An- drews, which had been destroyed by fire as the result of an accident on the Tamiami Trail. Sister Florence Graham, Miss Bertha Boomer, Mrs. Walter Thomas and Brothers Jesse Putnam and Franklin Jacke drove to Everglades where they en- joyed a boat trip with Mr. and Mrs. Frank S. Lewis. On the 27th a pleasant evening was spent at cards by a group of the Unity members with Mrs. Walter Thomas as guest of honor and Cora Stephens hostess at her cottage. The tally cards, made by Alafae Steph- ens, were very attractive and showed evidence of much artistic ability. Needless to say the refreshments were delicious, and the occasion was most enjoyable.
